Expressionism

Today I left class with a very vague idea of what expressionism is, it certainly wasn't enough to write a blog post on though. We looked at a few dances and operas, which I think we all know at this point that my knowledge on those forms of art is inadequate. So I went home and looked up some expressionist art pieces, and oh did that help. Expressionism is morbid to say the least. It conveys feelings through art that otherwise would be unorthodox to speak about. Expressionistic art is very emotional and often comes from a dark place. Something I noticed was that it isn't an art style, it's the feelings the piece portrays. The piece can be cubist, futurist, or whatever you want and can still be expressionist. Most of my favorite pieces of art are expressionist and I never realized it.  I've always wanted to try a piece like that but I've always been too afraid to do it. Maybe I'll man up and just do it one of these days.
